Book Character Day - Friday 7th September

As it was World Literacy Day on the 8th of September, Sacred Heart School had a Book Character Day on the 7th of September.  Instead of coming to school in our uniforms, we could choose a character from our favourite book and dress up as them.  Lots of children also brought the book to school to share with others. 

Can you guess who this person is from our class???  Her character is called Great Aunt Annie who is a polar bear.

We had a parade on the concrete court area so that we could see what everyone else looked like. You would agree that there are lots of very creative children and parents at our school!!!!

Pompoms

In Art, as part of a construction unit, we have spent the last 4 weeks making pompoms.  It has taken a really loooooooooonnnnnnnnggggg time and we have almost finished them.  This has taught us the importance of persistance (to keep at something to get it finished), one of the Habits of Mind.  They are so cool.

Flying paper planes

This term we have been learning how to write instructions and follow them.  Earlier this week we had to read some instructions to make a paper plane.  It was very tricky.  Even Miss Swney had problems with it and Kate came to her rescue. After making our jet planes, we decorated them and took them outside to fly.

Parachute - What fun!!!

Inside the parachute - we made a mushroom shape by raising the parachute high above our heads, putting it over them and then sitting on the edge under it.  It made a mushroom shape from the air being trapped inside.

Another Mercy Charism Award

Congratulations to this wonderful Room 3 person who was awarded the Mercy Charism Award for the great things he has been doing at school.  Well done.

Olympic Day

 

 Inside the parachute

Yesterday Sacred Heart School had our own mini Olympic games at the Velodrome. Each of our houses were allocated a country that will be competing at the Olympic games at the end of this week.  The countries were chosen based on the colours of our School houses.  Once we had our opening ceremony, complete with torch bearers, the Olympic oath and a march around the outside of the events stage with our flags, the games were declared open by Mr Forde.  Below are photos of our class completing some of the activities.

At the Olympics

There were lots of games at the Olympics.  I enjoyed all of the games.  I even enjoyed the hockey game.  Well, I wasn’t very good at it.  There was a javelin game that was my favourite game because I love throwing things.  There was a parachute and that was my second favourite game because we got to go under it.
